It means a lot that you posted here.

I experience that over and over, encountering written or conversational accounts from other autistic people and recognizing myself in them. It is amazing to not feel so alone with experiencing the world in ways most people don't seem to understand.Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14674924649264378324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7857320994707217730.post-85325580358168276652010-08-27T00:57:50.109-04:002010-08-27T00:57:50.109-04:00Hi. I'm 46 and just heard about Aspergers/late diagnosed autism a few weeks ago by reading the blog of an old friend who found out she was autistic when she was 50. I began to think I'm autistic too. No one has ever suggested it to me, but when I read the experiences of people like you and my friend Rachel and the may other writings I've read by autistic people, I am finding experiences that I thought only I had.

I can relate to somuch of what you say:
"I have had a sort of immaturity that I could never see, because parts of my development as a child were so precocious and I was always called 'mature' and advanced for my age."
"I'd have understood some of the answers to 'what's wrong' and why the world felt harder for me than for others despite always being told that I was so talented. In other words, maybe I'd have had a more realistic picture of myself. Maybe my parents would too"
"My intensity and sensitivity are great gifts"
"I had to figure out things on my own, which exercised parts of my brain that are stronger as a result."
"As a child, to have been seen as not just artistic and intense but actually having trouble making sense of the world and being unable to articulate that I was,"

-IsabelAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
